WE ARE NOW MR AND MRS HARRIS-SCOTT!!

So, we did it!!!!

It was a great day, the wind was a bit crazy (20-30 mph) but that actually helped to keep the heat down (it got to around 90, nothing really for us New Orleanians but woulda played havoc with some folks).

The ceremony went off mostly without a hitch and I got to walk down the aisle to the Star Wars opening theme song, freaking awesome!!!!!!!

My bride was beautiful OF COURSE!

Joel was a great officiant, couldn't have asked for a better one! Greg was clutch as music director and Lila and Kathy were wonderful in their reading and singing! I am so glad I had Scott here with me and my grandma, aunt and of course, my momma!!

And without a doubt, thanks so much to Tess and Tom for hosting this crazy event!!!! Also, thanks to Uncle Tom, Jason, Mia, Gib, Lynn, Billy, Ben, and Ian for making this wedding so wonderful.

Now, off to Glacier for our mini-honeymoon, I hear its beautiful up there!?!

Then, on to South Dakota to meet Pearl's extended, extended family!!!

The craziness has begun!!

So, this will be short, the craziness has finally begun!! People are arriving, including Scott, my mom and grandma, plus Pearl's dad and brother. Scott, Mom, Grandma and I went to the Rockies today, they are pretty awesome! We barely made a dent into them but they are spectacular all around. Elektra is beginning to dislike all the traversing on gravel roads, hopefully she holds up!?!

I would reckon there won't be a blog post before the wedding so if I don't talk to anyone until afterwards, wish us luck and we shall see you again as Mr and Mrs Harris-Scott!!!!

Hello All!!

Well we finally commandeered my mother's computer and have added pictures to our flickr account :D Steve went off this morning to cut logs for our arbor - we will try to document the process of its construction. It was his first time using a chain saw - and apparently he had a great time. Life out here on the prairie is a new experience for both him and Mosbey - but I think they both like it, at least other than the early mornings...

Prepping for the Wedding in Great Falls

Hello Family and Friends!

The past few days have been pretty crazy. Our time in Bozeman seemed pretty short - there are always far too many people and places to see and not enough time to see them! So we hit the road again on Saturday to drive the three hours up to Great Falls, the drive was made somewhat more interesting by the numerous passing thunderstorms (all of which Mosbey hated).

The farm that my mom lives on - and where our wedding will be is on the far northwest side of Great Falls, and usually they get minuscule amounts of rain - however Steve once again brought rain to the farm and we spent all of Saturday and Sunday ducking in and out of the house as the rain came down.

This week should be a busy one though! Just today we have finally figured out where the wedding will take place - bought supplies to make the ring pillow for Mosbey - bought wedding supplies - and found some cool pieces of cottonwood for the arch that we will be married under!
Tomorrow will bring more chores! Thankfully we aren't expecting any guests till Thursday - at which point hopefully a lot of the work will be done!

Finally, the first blog post of the trip!

Hello all,

It took a while for the first blog post of the trip but we are finally to a spot where I could get online. I have a lot to tell you, however, so here are some highlights from the road trip to Montana:

DAY 1 (Sun, 6/14): Fairfax, Va --> Pittsburg, Pa
1. We drove through an awesome little town in West Va. called Beverley Springs which had a huge farmer's market downtown (in what appeared to be a town with barely 10,000 people in it).
2. There were ads for a chainsaw carving festival in another small town in West Va., now there is some range!
3. We drove by Fort Necessity, the place where George Washington established his less-than-stellar military career by surrendering to the French in what would become the Seven Years' (or French and Indian) War.

DAY 2 (Mon 6/15): Pittsburg --> Newton, Iowa
1. Elizabeth, Pearl's cousin once removed (the 5-yr old daughter of Pearl's cousin TIna - Elizabeth is the oldest daughter and the 5th of 7 kids!!), brought me a crispy strip of bacon after waking me up on the couch at 730am! It was the least she could do!?!
2. Mosbey was absolutely exhausted after being run ragged by the 7 kids the night before.
3. West of Peoria, Illinois there was a town and creek called "Kickapoo"!! HA!!! KICK-a-POO, thats awesome!

DAY 3 (Tues 6/16): Newton --> Gilette, Wyoming
1. Deciding to forgo camping for a hotel room in Newton because of a massive rainstorm, then getting to take a wonderful, hot shower the next morning.
2. Pearlie acting all goofy after being all hopped up on sugar!
3. Doing the USA Today crosswords puzzle with Pearl and ALMOST finishing!?!
4. Seeing arrays of cool wind turbines in NW Iowa. Good for you Iowa, use that free energy!!

DAY 4 (Wed 6/17): Gilette --> Bozeman/Belgrade, MT
1. Getting to meet Pearl's Unlce Tom who she adores and I think was pretty cool.
2. Seeing crazy thunderstorms (but missing them) as we entered the Rockies, and being able to see the whole storm because we were on the plains and there are no trees!! Look for pics on Flickr sooooon.
3. Catching a cool Kojo Nnamdi show (and finally seeing how to spell his name) on XM (we listen to it all the time on NPR) about localvores in the DC area (we hope to become one soon!!).

DAY 5 (Thurs 6/18): in Bozeman, MT
1. Playing with Pearl's friend Lila's daughter Lorelei at a park while Mosbey ran around off his leash and met all kinds of other dogs, kids, and adults. Then Lorelei provided great comic relief by trying to splash me with water in a nearby creek and falling into it! It was a great preview of life with our children!!
2. Meeting Pearl's friend Chris and listening to him play some good jazz in a coffee bar in downtown Bozeman. This town very much reminds me of some of the cooler parts of Magazine Street. Lots of small, indy shops, bars, and dogs everywhere!!
3. Having my 3rd pancake breakfast of the trip by Ann, Pearl's mom's good friend. I am being spoiled rotten!!

Okay everyone, hopefully it won't take 4 or 5 days till the next blog post!

Only a day to go before departure and boy is my wallet tired

Hello my friends,

Well, it looks as if only packing remains! The last few days have been spent getting Elektra (again, the car) and Mosbey (the dog if anyone didn't know) ready for the long trip. Elektra needed to have her transmission flushed and rear brake pads replaced as she is creeping up on 90,000 miles. We are considering trading her in after the road trip although the thought of that gives me chills, I love her so much!!! She has been a good friend but I wouldn't mind getting a 50mpg Civic Hybrid or something to that effect now that Elektra's warranty will be expiring soon after we return. And we hope to maybe trade in both Elektra and Pearlie's Buick to get the best deal, if that might help things...

As for the puppy dogg, he needed several of his shots and we figured crossing state lines with a dog not up to date on his shots might not be a great idea. And by the way, we figured it out while hanging out with our good friends the Millers tonight (our last social engagement in Virginia until late-July), we will be crossing 25 states' lines for a total of 50 state lines crossed in toto!! So, Mose and Elektra are now both ready for the road and we are too...I hope!?!

And thanks very much to my love, Pearlie, who cleaned the heck out of Elektra today and, for the first time since I bought her, she is SPOTLESS!!!! Well, as spotless as possible with 90,000 miles on her and a seriously shedding dog as a passenger for the last almost-four years.

I also wanted to share some very good news! We just took a little 24-hour trip down to North Carolina to visit Pearl's family (the Harris side) and my girl Elektra (my car if you didn't know!) got a wonderful 39.5 mpg!!! With any luck, we can average 36 or 37 mpg for the trip and if gas stays under $2.50 or so, that will be clutch - we are driving around 7,500 miles total this summer! YIKES!! Fingers-crossed...

First voyage of the new Pearl and Steve Wedding Blog!

Hello all,

This is the first blog post of me and Pearlie's wedding blog that we hope to update every few days while on our 6-week long wedding adventure this summer (we leave in 9 days!!!!!).
